
The Highlands Soccer Club
competitive under-10 boys team placed first in the Freedom
First Invitational Soccer Tournament in Roanoke Virginia,
May 27-28, 2006. They also went undefeated in the
Tri-Cities Soccer League which includes competitive teams
from Abingdon, Bristol,
Johnson City, Kingsport and Greenville. This
is the first time that a team from the Highlands Soccer Club
has won a tournament championship and won the Tri-Cities
League.
Coach Fernando Zabaleta
plays soccer for Virginia Intermont and is the head coach
for the team. Chad Craft serves as the parent coach and Jon
Johnston (not pictured) is the assistant parent coach.
Starting with the back left the players are Matthew Largen,
Eric Johnston, Kenny Hagen, Trevor Owens; front row staring
at the left: Logan Henderson, Tim Talbert, Kelby Zeiger,
Coy Craft and Derek Cassell. This team is made up of boys
from Abingdon, Lebanon, Glade Spring, and
Saltville. Hagen and Zeiger are from Blackburg and guest
played with the team during the Freedom First tournament.
